Winter Weekend

February 25, 2022

What a great winter weekend we had at Porters Lake last weekend. It was seriously winter on Saturday with snow flurries and high winds all day. A snow squall came in about 2 pm causing some whiteout conditions. Over the weekend people were ice fishing, ice skating, hiking, riding their atvs and even an ice boat appeared on the lake.

The trap range was busy both days, Saturday had snow showers and very high winds causing some difficult conditions. Steve King did a great job organizing the trap shooting for the weekend.

The Chili Cook Off was held at noon on Saturday and 5 great entries were enjoyed by all. The winner in a close vote was Adam Hartzell’s with his secret ingredient bacon. They all were great. Matt provided the corn bread and fixings. Cocktail party and dinner finished off a great Saturday.

On Sunday, a good crowd braved the cold but sunny day for a Bloody Mary bar hosted by Dena and Skip Baker and Amy Schlisman. They provided delicious sandwiches and Amy made quesadillas, perfect warm treat for the day. Matt assembled all the ingredients you could want to make the best Bloody Mary’s . The fire pit was very crowded to ward off the cold wind. A fabulous Porters Lake tradition. work weekend in the books and it was a good one at Porters Lake. The sun finally came out and gave us very pleasant day to to get Spring clean up started at the club. Barry Miller, Grounds Chairman, organized a great group of members. Everyone got to meet our new Caretaker Scott McCluer at breakfast and lunch  and he got to see what the members of Porters Lake can get done. He did his best to get everything in place for Saturday and worked with the members throughout the day.
